No Doctor, No Problem: How No-Medical-Exam Final Expense Insurance Actually Works

[HERO] No Doctor, No Problem: How No-Medical-Exam Final Expense Insurance Actually Works

Let’s be honest for a second. Most people avoid life insurance for the same reason they avoid the dentist. It’s the dread of the "exam."

You know the drill. A stranger comes to your house. They weigh you. They measure your blood pressure. They take a vial of blood and ask you to pee in a cup. Then, you sit around for six weeks waiting for some underwriter in a dark office to decide if you’re "worthy" of coverage.

If you’re a senior, or if you’ve had a few health hiccups in the past, that process isn't just annoying. It’s intimidating. You might think, "Why bother? They’ll just turn me down anyway."

I’m here to tell you that’s not how it has to work. At Covered By Mike, I specialize in something much simpler: no medical exam life insurance.

Specifically, I help folks get final expense insurance without the needles, the scales, or the month-long wait. I’ve seen people get fully covered in the time it takes to brew a pot of coffee.

But I also know what you’re thinking. "No exam? What’s the catch?"

Let’s pull back the curtain and look at how this actually works.

Why the Skepticism? (And Why It’s Safe)

When I tell people they can get coverage without a doctor’s visit, I usually get a squinty-eyed look. It sounds too good to be true. In the insurance world, we’ve been conditioned to think that "easy" means "scam."

But here’s the truth: insurance companies have gotten a lot smarter.

In the old days, they needed your blood to see if you had high cholesterol or signs of diabetes. Today, they use technology. When we sit down to do an application, the insurance company does a quick, secure check of your prescription history and your motor vehicle record.

They can see if you’re taking blood pressure meds or if you’ve had a major health event recently. This data allows them to skip the physical exam entirely while still feeling confident about offering you a policy.

It’s not magic. It’s just modern.

The Two Main Paths to Coverage

When we talk about final expense insurance with no medical exam, there are really only two ways it goes. Understanding the difference between these two is the most important thing you’ll read today.

1. Simplified Issue (The "Gold Standard")

This is what I aim for with almost every client.

  • How it works: You answer a few "Yes" or "No" health questions over the phone with me.

  • The Wait: There isn't one. Most of these get approved in minutes.

  • The Benefit: You are covered from Day 1. If you sign the papers today and something happens tomorrow, your family gets the full check.

  • Who it’s for: People with common health issues like controlled diabetes, high blood pressure, or even some past heart issues. You don't have to be a marathon runner to qualify.

2. Guaranteed Issue (The "Safety Net")

Sometimes, health history is a bit more complicated. Maybe there’s a recent cancer diagnosis or chronic kidney issues.

  • How it works: There are zero health questions. None. If you are within the age range (usually 50–85), you are accepted.

  • The Catch: Because the insurance company knows nothing about your health, they protect themselves with a "waiting period", usually two years. If you pass away from natural causes during those first two years, they won’t pay the full death benefit, but they will refund every penny of your premiums plus interest.

  • The Benefit: It’s a guarantee. No one can turn you down.

I always try to get my clients into a Simplified Issue plan first because I want you to have that Day 1 protection. My job is to know which companies are "friendly" to which health conditions so we can find the best fit for you.

How I Make It Fast (Like, Really Fast)

I don’t like wasting time. I bet you don’t either.

When you work with a big, faceless call center, you’re just a number in a queue. You’ll talk to one person, get put on hold, and then talk to someone else who doesn't know your name.

At Covered By Mike, it’s just me. We talk, we find a plan, and we get it done.

Here is exactly how my process works:

  1. The Chat: We spend 10 minutes on the phone. I’ll ask about what you’re looking for and a little bit about your health.

  2. The Match: I look at the top-rated carriers I work with and find the one that gives you the most coverage for the lowest price.

  3. The Application: We do it right then and there. No paperwork for you to mail back and forth.

  4. The Decision: In many cases, we get an answer from the insurance company before we even hang up the phone.

No doctors. No waiting. Just a simple "You’re covered."

Dealing with "Health Issues"

I hear it all the time: "Mike, I’d love to protect my kids, but I’ve got [insert health condition here]. No one will take me."

Stop right there.

Final expense insurance is designed for seniors. The companies I work with expect you to have some health issues. They know you’re not 25 anymore.

I have helped people get no-medical-exam life insurance who have:

  • Type 2 Diabetes

  • Sleep Apnea

  • High Blood Pressure

  • High Cholesterol

  • Past Heart Stents

  • COPD (in some cases)

Don't disqualify yourself before we even talk. My goal is to find you a "Yes" when everyone else has told you "No." You can check out more about how I approach this on my home page.

Why Final Expense Matters Right Now

We don't like to talk about it, but the cost of "moving on" is skyrocketing. The average funeral today can easily cost between $10,000 and $15,000. And that doesn't even count the leftover medical bills, credit card debt, or the cost of clearing out a house.

When you get a final expense policy, you aren't buying it for yourself. You’re buying it so your daughter doesn't have to put a funeral on her credit card. You’re buying it so your spouse can stay in their home without worrying about a sudden $12,000 bill.

It’s about leaving a legacy of love, not a legacy of debt.

What Does It Actually Cost?

Honesty is my policy. No-medical-exam insurance is slightly more expensive than traditional term life insurance where you do a full exam. Why? Because the insurance company is taking on a little more risk by not seeing your blood work.

However, for a final expense policy (which is usually between $5,000 and $25,000 in coverage), it’s incredibly affordable.

Most of my clients pay somewhere between $50 and $100 a month.

Think about that. For the price of a couple of nice dinners out, you can guarantee that your family will never have to pass a hat around to pay for your final arrangements. That’s a trade-off most people are happy to make once they see the numbers.

No Pressure, Just Help

I’m not a high-pressure sales guy. I don’t have a boss breathing down my neck telling me to hit a quota. I’m the owner of this company, and my reputation is built on being helpful.

If I can’t find a policy that makes sense for you, I’ll tell you. If I think you’re better off waiting or looking at a different option, I’ll tell you that too.

Insurance is complicated enough. You don't need a pushy salesman making it worse. You need a neighbor who knows the ropes.

Let’s Get This Off Your To-Do List

You’ve probably been thinking about this for a while. It’s been sitting on the back burner, causing a little bit of stress every time you think about the "what ifs."

Imagine how good it will feel to hang up the phone knowing that it’s handled. No more worrying. No more guilt. Just the peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ve taken care of your people.

It only takes a few minutes to find out what you qualify for. No doctor needed. No needles required. Just a quick conversation with someone who cares.

If you’re ready to see how easy this can be, contact me here. I’d love to help you get protected.

Let's get you covered.

( Mike)
